Academic Web Service

The Academic Web service is an HTML-based web hosting solution provided by Engineering & Science Computing.  It is designed to meet the needs of our faculty and staff whose needs are more specific than most CMS offerings, such as Wordpress, can provide.

Manual Coding Required

Academic Web is, by design, an HTML, CSS, and Javascript platform.  It offers some common backend services such as PHP, but no database service.  For users who have needs that exceed what Academic Web is designed for, we recommend reaching out to us and we can work with you to provide a solution that does meet your web needs.

Your ~netid Site

By default, users of Academic Web will receive a www folder that maps to their ~netid/ folder in a browser.  Faculty can use thie space for academic profiles, to publish research, or simply to serve as an online CV.  We only ask that you keep your site primarily academic in nature.

Supplemental Sites

Supplemental Sites can be requested by Faculty or Staff to host additional academic content.  Supplemental Sites can be for a course, for a research group or lab. Some examples:

    • https://academicweb.nd.edu/personlab/
    • https://academicweb.nd.edu/persongroup/

Your Supplemental Site folders will show up next to your main www folder and will not require a second login credential.  They can also be transferred to other users if necessary.
