ESC's Academic Computing Operations utilizes an NFS shared-storage system for Linux computing.
This includes the computer clusters in Engineering classrooms and the Engineering library, as well as the remote virtual machines.
NFS has many of the same advantages as AFS and is a native file system for Linux. There will be home directory space, software modules,
and course folders (courses are setup on a case-by-case basis).
If you wish to connect to a remote node to use NFS, you can connect via ssh to remote300.helios.nd.edu.
For campus-owned, non-lab Linux workstations that need connectivity to the ESC NFS system, please contact the ESC Help Desk for assistance in configuration (email: eschelp@nd.edu phone: 631-0101). We do not support the setup of personally-owned computers in this way. ESC has also created NFS Client setup instructions if you wish to configure your workstation(s) yourselves. Particular steps will require ESC's intervention. Below are the links:
